Partner and CEO Greg Mottola recently visited San Francisco State University to speak with students in ENGR 427: Wood Structures, a course taught by Joyce Feng, Partner at Strandberg Engineering. Walker Warner and Standberg are currently collaborating on Cloud Nine Ranch.
In a classroom of 35 undergraduate students, Greg shared his architectural journey, creative process, and approach to design. He explored the importance of systems thinking and the crucial relationship between architects and engineers, showcasing mass timber projects from coastal California, the Mountain West, and around the world. Students noted the balance of function and form, appreciating these tangible examples of what they’re studying.
After the lecture, the students engaged in an insightful discussion, asking Greg about architecture, structural engineering, and advice for the future. We enjoyed the opportunity to engage with the next generation of engineers at SFSU, and we look forward to returning soon.

“We try to create places that are impactful—places that make you feel something when you occupy them.”
