Art House

California

Timeless and understated, the house forms the perfect gallery, showcasing an art collection that transcends styles and eras.

Designed for a pair of art collectors, this San Francisco home is envisioned as a contemporary, gallery-like retreat where the clients can live comfortably among their many artworks.

Inspired by New York’s famed Guggenheim, a hand-built staircase winds through the heart of the home—a seamless sculpture that spirals up the central core without ever touching the walls.

“The stair is most notable for what it lacks—as you ascend, you’re envelopedin the silence around you, with light flooding in from a skylight above.”
Clark Sather, Associate Principal

The finished home is bright, airy, and intentional. Its completely reimagined floor plan offers spaces for entertaining alongside cozy corners to retreat to. Skylights invite the outdoors in, warming the white oak floors and crisp gallery walls.

Inside and out, the home feels at ease in the surrounding cityscape. From quiet moments around the hearth to evenings on the terrace, it’s a space that will be enjoyed for generations to come.
